I
stopped by the grave of Aaron Carson Vaughn at the Arlington Cemetery. Vaughn was a member of Navy Seal Team 6. Before he went out on a
mission, his grandmother said to him, “be careful.” Vaughn’s reply,
“Granny, don’t worry about me, I’m not afraid because I know where I’m
going if something happens to me.” Vaughn was a devout Christian since
childhood and stood firm in his faith, according to
his grandmother. Vaughn was a part of the Navy Seal Team
whose helicopter was struck down by a Taliban insurgent’s rocket in
Afghanistan on August 6, 2011. He died, but the Bible reminds us in Psalm 116:15,
"precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints." Surely,
Vaughn is in a better place.
I faced a similar
circumstance when I almost got into a serious car accident working at my
last job. A car ran a stop sign and hit the tail end of another car and
just barely missed me. If I did not move my car to the side, I could have lost
my life or been seriously injured. I begin to think, “if death can come
that rapidly, without notice, look out.” If I would have died that day,
I believe I was prepared to meet God. However, there would have been a
lot of words left unsaid to many people and deeds left undone. Once I
wrote a devotional to my mom on my Facebook page for all she has done in my life
because I love her and she deserved it. I felt as if I did not let
her deeply know how much I truly loved her. On mothers day, I gave her a plaque expressing all my feelings of gratitude. There is a saying, “The
bitterest tears shed over graves are for words left unsaid and deeds
left undone."
If Christ tarries, we will all die, some sooner than others will. Therefore, if you need to forgive or show love to someone, do it now; tomorrow is not promised to us. Also, if you are reading this, make sure your right with Christ. I am not judging, but I do hope you can look death in the eye like Brother Vaughn and say, “I am not afraid, I’m going to be with Christ if anything happens.” If you do not have this confidence, please accept Christ. Accepting Christ is the only Way to have this confidence and Christ is the only Way to God and Heaven, there is no other Way, trust me, please accept Him. Even if you are a Christian, please get right with Christ if you are not, you never know when death will come.
Happy Veterans Day and Rest in Peace to Aaron Carson Vaughn and all the Navy Seal Team 6 Members who died August 6, 2011.
